Twas a beautifuel day for a ride. First rest stop was here at Lava Lake. A small lake with a picnic site only, sandy beach great for swimming. Just around the corner is the entrance to the Lava Fields. The ride to this point is paved and twisty roads.
A pic from last year, entrance to Canyon City on the Nass River, showing only partial covering of the Lava flow. The flow area is immense and had rerouted the river, a have to see it for yourself thing.
This bridge is in Canyon City, the fishwheels can be seen from the entrance bridge into here. Also last year pic.
At the campground entrance, you'll find this Info/ Interpretive Centre. Full of historical details and pics.
Next rest stop was this bridge on the Kitsault FSR.
Free shoes??
Frozen lake, one of many.
Andrew was right, there was snow. But apparently the DS Gods were there just ahead of us and parted the way. Phew!!
Someone tried to deter our entrance.
We respected that wish and left the gate untouched, which I was punished for later. Apparently law abiding citizens don't even know how to open unlocked gates.
Kitsault is not open to the public, as we soon found out and were asked to leave. Camping will be made available in a months time. Should you go camping there, bring a canoe or kayak, the Alice Arm is majestic. The road was mint all the way, and wouldn't hesitate to trudge up with a passenger vehicle. Be warned all visitors need to pre-authorize their visit with the Kitsault office. Anyone who wnats to journey there can PM for the office number.
It was amazingly warm at Kitsault. I would classify the trip an EE (Excellent and Easy) and highly recommend it. Just remember to phone ahead.
