Hey guys, (klrnorth & sparklr)
Unfortunately Friday night and Saturday are out for me.
I'mflying to PG Friday night and driving our new "chariot" back on Saturday. Gonna try to get a Costco run in and check in on Dr. Bike (don't know if he's still in PG or if he'll be back home). I sent him a PM and an e-mail, hoping that he'll let me know where he is and if there's anything I can bring him... I won't be able to take all his gear this time but we'll get it to him well before he'll be riding again anyway.
Perhaps something on Sunday? I'll check back here on Saturday night to see if anyone's going out.

klrnorth/sparklr: ..that's why I asked "Where were you when we needed you?" A little more encouragement & I could have found the potholes and totally drowned the engine; at least I had a go.
PS - I rode the bike in, then got off it, so don't forget thatthe suspension moved up ~4 inches. That's why it doesn't look as deep as it felt.
Work's crazy at moment. Hopefully I'll get some time out at the week-end, if only The Wedeene or Mt.Elizabeth. I also have neglected the honey-do list :TTT: (mmm...maybe I have to go to C/Tire for something!)

It's the spirit that counts, I'm sure you made a valiant effort by the looks of it! But I don't see any hip waders.

BTW- I almost bought your front tire today, but I was feeling guilty so I ordered a Fatter one instead.

Maybe if I had the "fat" front tyreit would "float" over the water better
It does look a bit skinny doesn't it?:hr:. Apparently I'm still waitin for the "fat" 5.10 rear to come in ...I'll check on Friday (Kenda 270's). Anything will be better than the slicks she's wearing ...but I got some good mileage out of the Bridgestone TW21 & TW22

My tires are expected early next week, wishful thinking. But should they arrive maybe we could curse together for a few hours getting them on seeing as I can't find my Irons. :shock:
Fridays plan was to go from Onion Lake to Terrace somehow. Again I have heard that a creek with high level will be a deterrent. And if that is true, perhaps if time permits, do a run up the Upper Kitimat. More of a non-planned, few hour jaunt.
North, I have managed an escape plan and will leave straight from work, ETA is 6:45-7:00, shootin' for the earlier one. Anyone else of course is always welcome.

Tonight's ride could be classified as a mini epic jaunt. North and I, after chatting up another Armpit resident with his Hp2 for a few minutes ventured into the bowels of the Lakelse basin. No GPS, wasn't needed as I had the confusing and trusty home printed FSR map. My reluctance to bring my camera along, will prove to be an error in judgement as no proof of the stupendous water crossings will be witnessed, although a few beavers and frogs might register a formal complaint.
The first few route attempts to gain passage to Terrace were futile. The first offered a beautiful view of Lakelse. The second, with North's bush clearing skills resulted in just getting acquainted with the bush. The third one was a toss up between trying to get through a washout, and one ingrown trail I had only scouted for a few clicks on Sunday prior. We opted for the ingrown face slapper. Definitely the right choice, after branch dodging and several watery swamp crossings (at North's insistence, as he adores water) we made it to the final obstacle and no bridge, just a rapid running and just a bit too deep creek. Marked on the other bank with a memorial cross for a 4 wheeler who had reportedly perished trying to cross over. We had more or less lost our light by this point and I had to resort to high beam to navigate back to compensate for the mirrored lense on my Googles.
North insisted on riding more and led me astray back to the Lake, only cause I couldn't catch up to him. Was a somewhat successful jaunt as we found what we were looking for, perhaps the creek will subside later and we can manouver across, Just To Say We Did!. The ride home was cooler than anticipated with waterlogged booties.
Moral of this story: Wherever the DRZ goes a KLR will Reluctantly follow! Kind of similar to the Hare and Tortoise fairy tale.

The KLR can certainly make it almost everywhere a DRZ does, but as we all know it's pilot dependent. It was an epic adventure for sure. The first few water crossings were a great warm up being axle deep and a decent length. When we pulled up to the huge pond/marsh/beaver pond I thought...no, knew we were done. However after walking through the brush a bit and probing the depth with a stick we deducted it was in deed doable... probably, younever know until uyou try so try we did. It was about a hundered meters long and awesome. About shoe deep on the KLR for Mica, he hasn't yet learned the fine technique of lifting his knees up to the tank on them deep smooth ones. Simply epic. I yahhhhooooooddddd like a ten year old girl on here way to disneyland after I got through that one. Then it was the KLR's turn and it was flawless. I was expecting the bridge to be out somewhere in the middle of the adventure and was getting more and more giddy as our previous adventures out white bottom road came into view, but literally a stones trhow away we ran into the impassable river.
So we trudging and dodging back in the dark expecting to run into a bear around any corner or branch in the overgrown run, and one wrong turn later we made it to the highway for a safe and chilly rip home.
What an evening, better than beer and hockey, even if it was the final game, any day. Thanks Mica it was awesome to ride with you as usual. You're a true gentleman following me everywhere which is not always the best idea but last night it was....except the wrong turn.
Had some sweet dreams last night and they came quick.
I'm still pumped. I know most rides I go on always seem like the best ride ever, but this was up there even though it was short. Gotta love them ???? moments and then being able to make it without pushing or grunting, unlike my and Michaels earlier adventures, that was NOT fun. So fun words can't desribe. I boneheadedly forgot the camera as well and am a bit choked. That long water crossing would have been a great shot. I've done quite a bit of water in my day and it was one of the longest, and defenitely the most fun since it was ???? the whole way through the first time.
I think we can forde the river once it comes down. Heard recently tyhe white bottom goes all the way to split mountain and you can stand right underneath it. That should be on our list and near the top.
Don't think I'll be able to head out this weekend, but I got my fix last night so I will survive.

How about Sunday morning for White Bottom? Working that night but a morning blast would probably tire me for a little afternoon napper. Might be some sun that day and a few puddles, better yet limited dust! I'll bring a camera this time and possibly sport my new rubbers.

No doubt about the late arrival time. She was razing me last time. She said I'd be home at 11, I said that's crazy talk, I'll be home way before that...and now we know the rest of the story.
