KVR Information

A bit of shameless self-promotion here....Admins can move this if it's in the wrong section, or whatever.

I have a work-in-progress here: https://kvradventures.blogspot.com/ that others can use for information, directions or other intel. Although it is not complete at this time, I hope to finish it over then next season or two, barring any "unforeseen circumstances".
This information will outline which portions or sections of KVR are currently multi-use and which are non-motorized.
I'm also hoping to include some GPX files, available for download with routes, distances, waypoints, etc.

Anyways...give it a look. I'm not making any money off it...it's strictly a labour of love for now. Feel free to leave comments and/or constructive criticism if you wish.

I’m not in front of my computer TW but will check out why you can’t modify your post when I’m home after the motorcycle show.

Here are links to GPX and KMZ files for the currently completed sections of KVR.
To determine which are NON-MOTORIZED, you may have to refer to the blog...and/or local bylaws...things change and I may not be aware of these changes.
I'd appreciate if people would let me know of any sections that were previously "multi-use" that have been converted.

Hope these work for you. Sorry about the ads that accompany the download...but that's the price you pay for "FREE" services.

Both files will be updated with my progress....

You should be able to load your gpx files directly into your post as an attachment. If not I will make sure you get permission.

Anyone riding the kvr above Naramata you can access and ride the kvr from the Adra tunnel east to chute lake. Access to the Adra tunnel is off naramata road, right turn up smethurst rd. Ride about 5 km up some switch backs on the fsr. Now watch for a small rd in tree's on your left with a quick turn to the right within about 40ft in. this little access is no longer than about 100feet to the lower entrance to the tunnel. Then take the bypass built to upper porthole, now just ride all the way to chute lake. with every second.

Almost a year since the above post, but I just rode the Coquihalla / Brookmere - Summerland section of the KVR this last weekend. If the weather holds, I am going to try catch the Penticton/Naramatta - Chute Lk - (Myra)Bypass and over to Carmi next weekend, but....I have a bit of an update for anyone who is wondering.

The Coquihalla - Brookmere section isn't rideable at the moment. There was a fire there this year accidentally set by some wingnut having a domestic dispute with his girlfriend...somehow he left the bbq on in the back of the truck, or threw it at her, or some crazy story, and with the crazy hot summer conditions, either the truck went up, or the bbq did, and it ended up burning a LOT of that section of the KVR. The 2nd bridge is completely burnt, and there a couple of tiny by passes before it, but...after the burnt bridge, there are danger trees down all over the route. Once you get to Brookmere, you can get very easily onto the KVR, and for a short distance it's a very lovely, nicely maintained trail. It changes to whooped out monotony shortly after. Soft terrain, you swear you have a flat, and it goes like that for nearly 60km.

A short distance later, another bridge that is 'off limits', but....seems totally fine. After that, it is literally km's of whoops, relentlessly, slowed only by fence after fence (30+?), before you come to another missing bridge just a few miles out of Coalmont. While we went and crossed the slimy river, it really isn't worth it as you can deek out onto the asphalt highway just ahead of the bridge, and the trail literally connects 800m beyond the missing bridge back onto the highway. I nearly shit myself after all the pain of getting my AT across the river only to find the Trail connect up with the Hwy moments later. We took a few photos and looked around Coalmont (still some cool history there!), and then made a mile towards Princeton. It is still another 30km to Princeton, and the trail is a little less whoop-y.

Closer to Princeton, the trail does start to get a bit better. We stayed in Princeton overnight, and left early the next a.m. with -2 on the thermometer! No rain overnight, so...no drama. The trail is significantly more traveled from Princeton onwards toward Summerland. It is 105km from start to finish. Much easier to navigate whoops-wise, and the trail is in good condition until closer to Summerland. A few gates, a couple of minor detours, and quite straight-forward until closer to Summerland. Signage is good, and mixed-use all the way until literally a handful of km's outside of town. There are a few tunnels, the topography is amazing, the location of the trail is impressive, there are a couple of rockslides with a small path over them to navigate, and then one last river/bridge wash-out just outside of Summerland. At this location, however, there is a small trail around the river, so....no wet boots involved!

All in all, Princeton - Summerland is much more agreeable than Brookmere to Princeton, and for the moment, the start of the KVR is completely unrideable.

Yeah its a shame what some moron can cause. Which bridges are burnt, right at the bottom of Larson Hill? Normally you need to access that section by riding the first of two bridges out of Larson actually on the spur to Merrit and then grab a connector trail up to the mainline. Do you have a track to share or can you provide a marked up map wiht the location. The next rideable section after your finish at Summerland is just after Little Tunnell high above Naramatta Bench and it is a pretty uninteresting but well maintained route up to Cute Lakes and then the KVR line is actually a road all the way to the Myra Park boundary and the bypass, as of Saturday it was all good to go.

Picture with the two bikes on the bridge, is that just of the Coldwater / Brookmere road?

2nd bridge in, from the start of the KVR outside of Brookmere. i'll see if i can get a screenshot out of Gaia and upload it. at any rate, it's going to take a LOT of work in that area to get the trail accessible....

Ok, yeas a pic to confirm from Gaia would be awesome. 99% Sure that us the spur to Merrit and not the main line from Larson along the east side of the Valley above the river, so passage (after tree clearing) should be good.

Cheers.
