North: It looks like I won't be doing any riding at all tomorrow so don't worry about meeting me at Sylvester. Good luck with the expedition.

I just got back from the ride. We (otg, 6fiddy and I) did exploring on foot and on the Bikes. We did not have time to verfiy any routes that might go all the way through.

The trail that we are currently working on, does come to an end where there is new growth. I walked a bit in the new growth to look for any over grown trails, but did not see one. Across the valley there are switch-backs on the monutain that look like they head toward Stault landing. But I would have to hike the route to be sure.

In summary, I think that I would need couple of days of hiking on foot to really form any opinion.

P.S.
The new trail is cool and fun to ride.

It would make a great newbie ride..... I can already hear the sound bikes crashing and the owners crying. :D

Had a fantastic day riding today, & great company too :clap:We were all over the area today, exploring every off-shoot road we found until we ran outa daylight. It seemed that every off-shoot we followed eventually ran into this sameravine:

1-1.jpg

It's way steeper & gnarlier than it looks. We did not ride to this area. Instead, we followed a path in as far as we could, then hiked inwards to scope it out a little closer. I took so many face slappers that myface shield will need to be replaced because I can barely see thru all the scratches.

We found some washed out & decommisioned bridges too:

I don't feel there's much point in further clearing brush until we come in from the Chehalis side & gauge the area from a different perspective. The connector work we did may have been for naught, but I'll let OTG or North fill you in with more details & GPS tracks.

As 6fiddy said it was great day to out and good company.

We did find one spur were you could cross the ravine / creek without difficulty. The other side was over grown with branches, which are no big deal. It does look like it heads up to the switch-backs that might go above statlu landing. It would have to be hiked to see just were it goes. It does seem worth exploring as does the current trail that we are working on.

And coming through on Chehalis side also make sense.

It would be great to have 1 to 50,000 Topo maps, walkie talkies and two groups of Hikers.

If I can get Thursday off of work, I would like to get up there first thing in the morning and spend the day hiking.

Hi all, I've been lurking on this thread with quite a bit of interest. I've noticed from your GPS maps that you're working on a route that branches east just south of Salisbury Lake. I haven't ridden this area and it's always dangerous to trust untested topo maps, but it appears that if you go farther north and branch to the east just south of Kenyon Lake you can follow a spur that runs just south of Terepocki Creek. This spur takes you very close to a spur that runs along the north side of Blacklock Creek and will definitely take you into the Norrish Creek system. Unfortunately Google maps is really blurry in this area but here's a link to Bing Maps that shows the area a lot better than Google.

http://www.bing.com/maps

Looking at the Bing map it looks like some trail cutting will be required but assuming that the old roads are still ride-able, and the section that needs to be cut is cut-able, this might be a viable route. Bing allows you to tilt your viewpoint and rotate it so you get a good idea of the contour and can look at it from any direction. It also gives you a birds-eye view in the more populous areas that has spectacular clarity.

You guys have put in a hell of a lot of time and effort into finding this connector so I'm sure you've already scouted out my suggestion and found it not do-able, but just in case you haven't I thought I'd put it up for discussion.

Hi John,

I have seen on a map what you are talking about and have wondered about that route too.

Been up to the end of Terepocki Creek road and you can find a video of that ride on youtube. Also road the Statlu side in search of Blacklock Creek road. It appears it was decommissioned years ago and we could only find one remnant that quickly deteriorated to washouts and bush. There are some threads on the web of folks hiking into Kenyon. It took them about two years and 5 attempts and they were finally successful from the Terepocki landing. I haven't heard of anyone successfully navigating Blacklock creek although it looks great on the map and google earth I think mother earth has reclaimed it.

I think the Statlu Creek landing is the most promising and we had some minor success today locating a closer access road. We have definitely identified the route on the Statlu side. I think there is potential to build a connector but there is still lots of work to do.

I will post up gpx files from today's ride with some suggestions for further explorations.

Flyn's Route:

OTG's other idea:

Plan view of existing trails:

Before we proceed cutting more trail I recommend the following:

1)Plan A:

Ride up Statlu and check out the haul road that we would use on Flyn's route. Determining thecondition of the road up from Statlu is the first step. If it is not usable then we should check out plan B. If it can work then the next task is to hike from our trail head over to the Statlu side and try and ribbon a trail. I expect building this trailwill be a significant amount of work.

2) Plan B:

Hike OTG's route using the south Lost Creek road and see if it has any potential. We know the road is good on the other side, the terrain above that road is steep and rugged but no worse than that on Flyn's route. If the road is decent we have a good alternative.

Let me know who is interested in exploring the Statlu side. I would go today but I spend too much time writing this post. :?

I have a GPX file but it was too large to post. PM me if you want it. I will try posting the google earth file.

I might have this Thursday October 22 off work. So I am thinking that I might spend the dayhikingforthe connector if I do.

The weather calls for cloudy with showers.

The forecast for this Saturday sounds decent. I was thinking a ride up to Statlu to check out the back side of Flynn's route might be in order. If anyone is interested post up or PM. It won't be an early start.
