No they did not qualifylegally. The inspection facilities used the wrong criteria to improperly approve rums.As I see it:
2) Thenext question is.....will they relent and "grandfather" existing plated vehicles as those bikes qualified under the laws as they existed when the bikes were plated.

Every manufactured street legal bike must pass the fuel system integrity check.Fuel System Integrity??...WHAT...these "RUM" bikes are meant to jump, ride at 100 miles per hour though the desert...I would have to say there is nothing wrong with Fuel System Integrity or anything else with these "RUM" bikes.I do realize that you DOT types must follow the party line...BUT whatis needed is some REAL common sense...we are already regulated to death in our day to day lives..:mad3:...whats next...MUST ride wrapped in bubble wrap?????or do you already have too and don't know it???
Once again (starting to sound like a broken record) the installation of lights and tires does not make a rum street legal. If it was that easy then you'd be able to order it from the factory that way.OTG has a good point in there, #3.
A buisneess oportunity exists for dealerships to have a kit and compliance package for the bikes that can be easily converted. Horn, lights, cute stick on reflecters, plate holder, hot-line to the MV branch, a sticker to replace the regi status of the bike. All for the lowlow price of...
Themanufacturer/dealer reps association could lobby to gain that ability in thier network? Are they that motivated , have they done it in other places, etc.
I've never seen a tank with DOT on it before.fartypants wrote:Well the tank has a DOT stamp on it does that count ?tattz wrote:How can you prove that your bike meets the Fuel System Integrity??I am curious I have an 02 ktm 520 and every single part has a dot stamp on it the rims are stamped dot the brake lines stamped dot calipers hubs even the factory front tire was dot ...so now that being said i also bought my bike in the states got the riv sheet did the inspection and walked into the insurance company and insured it so I guess not to argu the point with fancypants but i can say every one of those x on the sheet i can actually say yes my bike has so where does that leave my bike if i get pulled over and a cop sends me to get it inspected ?.....
Ok, you're wrong.correct me if i am wrong but in Quebec and Ontario and maybe Manitoba allow you to insure and ride ATV's and Snowmobiles on streets?
I have seen plates on them.
If they do ? how is it done?
It's nothing personal although you seem to think it is. It is not "ME" it is me doing my job. I don't deem bikes unfit for the road, Tansport Canada does at the time of manufacture.you seem to have a vested interest in banning any and all motorcycles that you deem unfit for our roadway's.
fartypants,my apoligies,i'm not picking on you! but yes i'm upset at this new rule that has just been rammed down our throats. and yes i also assumed that it was some how " your job" to make this happen. so what are you folks doing to the homemade out of non approved parts, lights, etc chopper crowd? or is the ubilt bike status the key to getting a bc assigned vin,and inspection, approved to ride in bc?
I'll tighten up my question a little bit just so it doesn't get lost in the clutter. there's 2 questions there,i'll break them apart if need be.cactusreid wrote:so what are you folks doing to the homemade out of non approved parts, lights, etc chopper crowd? or is the ubilt bike status the key to getting a bc assigned vin,and inspection, approved to ride in bc?
Yes some people have shirted the system But what about the members that went to a licenced bike shop in good faith and bought a plated rum bike from them Thinking it was legal & legit??? The shop did all the work and sold you the finalproduct and had it insured for you ( what you thought was) a street legal bike
but we are being told if a plated ''rum'' bike has to be inspected ''ever'' again.,it won't pass.thats crap. The bulletin is to prevent any new RUMs from being licenced it does not address the bikes already plated. I do not know if anything is in the works for RUMs that are already licenced.
