Come on people wake up, pay attention to what is being forced on you here.
If you read back in the thread you will see that BCCOM have their lawyers on this. They are an effective advocacy group and I believe supporting them will be more effective than an ad hoc response from the grassroots.
Right, I did see that, thanks.
I don't agree however, the more people take things into their own hands and educate themselves about bills and changes to the laws of the land the better.
Leaving it in the hands of others is exactly the problem with our society.
Everyone has everything done by someone else.

I'm going to sit down this weekend and write a letter asking about these changes and why they came about. I'll post that and any replies here.

Hi Stocks:

It might be a bit presumptive to say we are all sleeping. Have you read the entire thread and other threads on land closures, ORV licensing etc? There are many active members working on these issues. That is not to sayyou shouldn'tbecome informed, ask questions, research and lobby for your rights as an individual but do not assume you are the only one trying to do something about it.

We are all here to share our common interest in dual sport riding and we all make contributions in our own way. RUM bikes are just one of our challenges along with land use issues, FSR decommissioning, bridge removal, ORV legislation to name a few.

By becomming a paid member in DSBC you will help further the work of many through DSBC and our affiliation to BCCORMA in fighting for our rights. You can sign up this weekend at the Bike Show...visit the DSBC booth.

I understand that clearly thank you OTG,
Totally not trying to make light of all the efforts put forth by the various members and organizations. I do think it's important to have as many groups going after the same results as possible.
I've read this entire thread, I was reading it the moment it started. I've talked to countless members here, inspectors, cops, robbers (lol), and government agents and all of them have different opinions and answers.
It wasn't until the other shoe dropped Jan.1.2010 that it was official that RUM bikes are now outlawed. My intent is to push the everyman into getting active, not just donating some money but actually asking for answers on an individual level, then pooling those answers together and seeking the advice of legal council on what options are out there.
The fact that the powers that be have changed these laws, they have decreased the value of our investments. Which is pretty serious considering if this was done to say the classic car industry there what be riots in the streets.

Anyhow, don't assume my tone or intent be reading some text, the internet does not display emotions very well .

Nevermind, I get to worked up about such things, I sure hope someone has the right moves to make all these big mean political types stop infringing on my rights though.

Have a good weekend riding instead. :hb:

Just want to share a little tid-bit from a reliable source here. Firstly not trying to add speculation to this thread, secondly not sure if this has been covered already (i have read it the thread swear!) but here goes...

So if you are currently plated and ordered to get a vehicle inspection (by one of our friendly law inforcement officers) your dual-sported bike will fail!:shoot: So drive nice and cover your basic requirements for DOT lighting, reflecting, mirrors etc. Probably most important is not getting pulled over in the first place.

This was pointed out by an ICBC person to a bike dealer buddy of mine. Names have been withheld to protect the innocent lol.

Anyhow, my bike now is more reflector-y than before

This is the whole problem. That brp should be street legal. Certian bikes should be allowed. If you can ride a raked out loud pig... Or what the euro's are getting by with. It's called big buisnes running government and it SUCKS! It's to bad the upper class didn't ride these things.

Hello, long time lurker here but 1st post.
I haven't read every post on this thread but there was some questions as to whether you could (re)register a grandfathered bike.
Well recently I was able to transfer ownership, get plates for and register a CR500. The bike had not been insured for several years by the previous owner, but everything went smoothly.
We'll see if I get a letter from ICBC in month weaseling out of it but as it stands now my motard project is on.:hb:

haven't seen or heard anybody having issues with a plated rum ''grandfather wise'' but as this thead has pointed out be sure the police have no reason to issue you with a notice to inspect,as then you will be having your plates pulled

And if you do get pulled over, being polite and cordial (without being a suckup) may get you NOT noticed and given a box 1 or 2 which would no doubt put your RUM bike on the trailer. Smiles everyone Smiles. Remember they have all the power on the roadside.

Has anyone attempted to newly inspect and register a RUM in the last few months? I contacted VSM, and from the email they sent, it is still possible to convert, inspect and insure a RUM for road use. However I am skeptical. Has anyone tried lately?

My Husaberg was done by International Motorsports in mid January. I had no problems and to top it off ICBC just sent me a renewal letter saying please stop byany one of our local ICBC Autoplan brokers to have you insurance renewed.

Hmm. Well I was looking into getting a bike from Washington and dual sporting it, but... I'll probably still do it.
Knowing how insurance agencies and the importing process works I'll probably be able to bring it across the border, get the Canadian tire inspection and then take those papers straight to the insurance place and get a plate for it.

When I brought my ninja across from Oregon thats exactly what I did, it was missing all of its plastics, mirrors, front turn signals, had a rear fender eliminator kit on it and nobody said a thing. It was easier registering that bike from the states then another bike I brought over from Alberta.

All inspections stations have been notified that the inspection procedure starts with identifying the Canadian compliance sticker and verify it has the sticker and it states MC classification. If the sticker is missing or reads any other vehicle status the inspection automatically fails at this point. There have been instances where the inspection station has failed to check but the serial number was rejected by ICBC and further to that the inspection station was chastised for improper testing, the inspection changed to failed and no plate issues......but go ahead, you might get lucky and slip one by the system....then again maybe you won't......

04 klr and i talked to a local fellow on wednesday that has just recently bought a rum/converted/dualsport bike. he was very concerned about being able to transfer insurance and plate the bike. he called icbc, and the person he asked including the serial # of said bike, told him he was good to go as this bike has been plated and approved in their system. Ie:"grandfathered". so he went ahead and bought it and hung a plate on it as far as i know. (this i will check and confirm). so it appears that they may be restricting new conversions, but it also appears that plated bikes on the road now are relatively ok.

thks for jumpin in nosweat, but i don't believe your the man in question. but the more info we can get on this rum bike issue the better. the issue with the rum bikes is that even if you have gone past the letter of the law as far as being street legal-"THE MAN" can fail you at inspection time, if your bike started out as an offroad version! i still think that the ubilt avenue, with a bc assigned serial # on a freshly painted bare frame is one way past this silliness but i don't think that has been tried yet.
