Update on the grip heaters. They are taking forever. They should be here by Thursday, fingers crossed, more than two weeks after being ordered. AAARRRRGGGGGG:mad3:

I'll be tearing her down and trying to get them installed by Saturday morning, no guarantees though since I have no idea what I'm doing. However if I don't have them figured out early Saturday you guys are more than welcome to come by for some coffee and help me figure them out and get me on the road. I'll keep y'all updated. For now I'm waiting patiently, but getting pissed off.

So far I'm good for Saturday and/or Sunday...so I'll be out unless it's absolutely persisting down (...or snowing). BTW I hear you can't fit heated grips to Red KLRs only Blue ones :D. After 30+ years my thick gloves have just about had it so I'm looking for something. Maybe a pair of oven mitts might work?

Sparklr - work up a plan for the weekend and let's see how many we can get out there!

The Blue KLR was about 4-5 km south of Enso campsite so well past that nice ditch, although I think they said they'd been up some side roads

P.S. How early is early?

First, could you please address me in BLUE! I was thinking a run up Trapper off the Copper River Main, supposedly lakes and cabins up there. I hear it starts around the 22Km mark, I'll map snoop it later, apparently nothing tricky. I really wasn't going to plan much, more or less go with the flow and get a good day in, if all else goes sour perhaps some of the Kitimat Main area. As for early, hmm I'll word this carefully so the flock doesn't scare off. How about when the sun is up?

Count me in for a Sunday ride. Mica, Trapper has a gate at the bottom of it (close to the 22km point on the fsr). Northie and I did try to bypass the gate without success a few months back. However I do recall Northie commenting that the gate was open a week or two ago. If it is it would be fun to ride in the snow:hb: I am in for an early start just name the where and when.

By the way I can confirm that green KLR's have no issues. Mine has been faultless this year:clap: I was so close to selling the pig when all the rumpus kicked off about ICBC and RUM bikes. The pig may re-surface next year if my plate get's pulled.

Warren give me a shout on Saturday and I willgive you a hand wiring in the grips.

Green is the BEST!! I knew it! So is it a Sunday ride? Either day is fine by me. Greg said a bit ago that the copper FSR was closed at 12 for construction....that just means fun to me!! Who knows if the trapper gate will be open or not, perhaps the loggin is done there this year and it will stay open...perhaps not.

Thanks for the offer to help Kermodei, I may need it, but I doubt the damn grips will be here anyways.

Mica did you get yers on yet?

Steve I hear the red ones don't take well to mods so try the oven mits:mb:

You should have known better to get a red one....they turn PINK you know!!

Didn't wire them in yet but they are on, will have them running for Sunday. Last weekend my glove combo worked fine, even in the morning rain but I think for this weekend the heat will be beneficial early in the day.

Today I need to fix my FLAT before work. Tomorrow start tearing her down for all the new gadgets and fix the rear rack.

Sunday was the day preferred for me as I have too many projects to finish up and it was predicted to be the sunnier day. Sunday is an all day ride for me. I might get out Sat AM early and run the Kitimat FSR just to test the electricals and heaties.

What and where did you order from that is taking so long? All my stuff gets here in a 3/4 days to a week max.

PINK KLR!! :) :mad2:

PINK IS NOT GOOD ...but it takes sun to make it fade ...guess I'm ok in Kitimat!

Looks like we'll have a good turnout Sunday ...what about Greg, Chuck, Danny, others?

How'sthis:Kitimat 8am to Terrace A&W for 8:45 - 9am ? Not too late is it?

:br::cf2:
OK enough of the colours! Anything on Saturday?

Something like that works for me Sunday. Saturday I'm not too sure yet. My great heaters are here and close to installed....I think.

Depends what's up around here, it's the canning time of year!! Maybe I'll be able to get out to make a run up copper or something not too far away. Sunday maybe we can do trapper, copper and even head out to rosswood and try the sterling again!! We'll have to have a serious discussion over breaky. Let's hope it suny...but not too sunny to turn things pink!

Sorry about that one Steve...at least I got to know you a bit before I brought it out:clap: Keep that pledge handy!

Grip heaters are installed and working although just wired to the battery with no relay so I must remember to turn them off when I turn the bike off. Should be alright, but I can usually jumpstart her if I forget, as long as Michael hasn't got me stuck in a gully or something.

Had to find a bit of wire extension since it was a bit short to the battery but it mounted up very nicely in my unexpert opinion. It seems the DRZ has a hole in just the right spot to mount the switch although now I have to reroute the vent tube.

Tried them out running to the grocery store today in the cold and a bit of rain and they were fantastic. I think all bikes sold in Canada should come with them mandatory, or really anywhere. I've been in the tropics and been freezing before on my bike, but that's another story.

Let's go for a humdinger this weekend!! Can't wait.

count me in for Sunday. I am getting mighty "green" with envy around all this talk of heated grips. As many of youhave seen the KLX rarely hs enough juice in the battery to e-start let alone power up hand warmers.

Let's go for it as time is running out in the north. Some of them hills already have a sprinkling of the white stuff:clap: (I am thinking about the ski season).

See you all on Sunday

K, I will probably have breaky here and be to the dub about 9 or just before. Worked from 6 to noon, ya Mica 6 and just got home with a massive load of firewood so my duties to the home are fullfilled....for now

See Ya'll and hopefully there are more of ya'll there. Silence of the lambs here, where Kermodei and Mica these days?

:p I will be at the dub before 9. Have a safe ride in from Kitimat.

I had to scrape ice off the truck this morning....our opportunities to ride in'09 are drawing to an end in the North.

Steve, I'll be ready at 8:00.

:mad3:Slaving all day on electricals, main fused wire and ground in, relay and terminal strip in. That didn't work, relay not switching with key. Decided to just focus on the grip heaters, all wired up and no go. Well I'm no electrician, but this was supposed to be easy.

:gaah: My oven mitts are PINK like Steve's Pig!!

Since I have no idea about electiracal I like the KISS theory. Wired to the battery nothing that can mess me up any more than it needs to. See you guys there, watch out for black ice.

:ss::bliss::ss:

What a fantastic day out! Pretty cold start (for the Kitimat guys) but good breakfast with the Terrace bunch and then off we (6) went. First was Trapper (or is it Trapline?) off Copper River. Apart from a bit of slimy mud this was a fantastic ride up to the top of the world. We were in fresh snow (yup, snowballs as well). A litle windy but the sun was now out and the 360 deg. views were incredible. BAck down for a pitstop and off to Williams creek. We tooka branch to a right-hand valley which was interesting but deteriorated rapidly - too much for a couple of us.

Thanks to all for a great day out. For me it's one to remember - I'll let others present their anecdotes...

One photo of several - clicking it should open more in my Gallery

Thanks Steve x2, Greg, Mica and Warren for a great day's riding. I will leave the ride report for now as :worth:

What I learned today:

1. I live in an an open air adventure playground

2. Blue Klr's travel in groups

3. Pink Klr's do not fall over (except for Dr Bike's:Stir)

4. :stupid: I know this as I have a bruised butt and elbow!!

Thanks again for a great day riding and hopefully it will not be the last this year.

I am looking forward to the ride report and pics. I just hope that you are quicker than I am (sorry Warren).
