Well, once the sphincter relaxes a bit things will feel a bit more able to enjoy the vacation :eek:. Yeah, riding in the rain at night on another Highway of Death is on page one of the Adventure Moto rulebook.....right after "don't carry firearms and drugs across a border"....:eek:.

in a few weeks I will lose my KLR cherry and am looking forward to it a lot. Murray tells me that they are a good bike, and I know he isn't biased....:rolleyes:. He showed me a once-over on his a few nights ago so at least I know how to get the seat off now :cool:

turns out al just moved to another hotel ,we got him here in the flesh now, heading to muchu pichu tuesday by cab then by train. who says we don,t take time off.thanks crystal for your consern.

Ged, we tried the Cuy the other night and robin and myself got maybe a hind quarter of guinea pig each, not a full meal to say the least.
Well itsa couple of days later and we are better than +600k avg. after our ¨kids at home dont do this ride last night we had a group lunch together and yukked it up over a few small beers (1.1lt) and burgers at the Norton bar here in cuzco. we´.ve arranged a tour of some old shack called macchu picchu on tuesday which means our posteriors get a 2 day reprieve, the crossings of the andean peaks has been fantastic so far, it.s quits the sight when you crest a peak and look down into the valley below and see a town that will take the better part of an hour and uncountable switchbacks to get to.
I know they are boring as hell but here´s a few more pics.

just because your truck is a donkey pulling a cart is no reason not to have cell fone stuck to your head.

how bout a couple of church shots for the religiously inclined, the first is just shy of the columbia equador border, Ipales built in the belly of a deep chasm which is humongous, the arch over the river bed is massive (slightly smaller than humongous), really amazing what the power of the almighty can make people build, a very impressive cathedral. there are two people standing in purple by the front right corner of the fbc (friggin big church) to give a reference to size.

it was a bit of a walk down to the church, requiring a bit more of a walk back up! one of the workers there spotted Al and thought that he looked old enuf just take a to ride to the bottom. Here he is on the way back up with pedestrians scattering away, and all with as big a smile on their face as his.

san augustine columbia, where they are known for large stone carvings (?), we wandered around the nat. park and got a good workout of a walk and took some photos like the one following. the carvings were made by a bunch of bored masons in 330bc for an unknown reason. (bored, too much cacao perhaps?)

well thats all for now time to upload some more. be warned the upcoming twisty road pics may not be as dramatic in pics as in real life due to photographic realities and the difficulties in showing steepness (insert a charlston heston rant here, Damn you camera, damn you to hell!)

Oh awesome updates; you’ve been SUPER busy since I checked last Thursday! Loved the pictures. (Ok, I was creeped out by a few of them) The captions were perfect and I’m still chuckling about the dead sexy mood lights in the room. Eeeeeeeuuuuuuuu. Robin, you sure looked comfortable with your captivated audience; your Spanish must be muy bien by now! I also smiled when I looked at the one with the police recruits. Not because of them, but because of our Al with his brand new prized SA Dakar 2013 T-Shirt and that big ole bandage on his beleaguered left elbow. The translations of the Spanish road sign phrases made me laugh out loud. Knowing the skill level of you all as riders, it boggles the mind to hear of the road (non-road) conditions you’ve travelled. What’s that saying about not riding faster than your angels can fly?
Hats off to you all. Gracias por traernos a lo largo de su aventura.

Al, glad to see you are back in the pack. Skiing has been great but I rang my chimes last week and have to take some time off. Some say I'm slower than ever which you know can't be true. Very sad news - Peter Allan passed away . Memorial event by the Weasels sometime in mid-March. Some photos of Peter at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/petertheman/show/ . How was the side-trip? We went and saw machu pichu yesterday, took a slow cab , a slow train and a not to slow bus to get us up to the site . A bit pricey and alot turismo but well worth it. Spending three days in cusco was a treat, good food and a really neat old city with inca ruins still incorperated in some of the buildings , the spansh tore down the inca temples and in the 1500 built their churches on the foundations of theses temples. Had my rear break pads resurfaced in cusco , a lost art in canada , cost $20.00 sol or the equevilant of about $8.50 canadian the young lad had themm done in about 4 hours for me. Meet alot of other adventure riders in cusco , all good guys and great to swap stories with . Lots of expat. Americanos in cusco , real hippie types and backpackers from all over the world . We arrived in puno this afternoon and we;re going to take a walk down to lake titicaca and see if we can't get out to the islands of reeds that people call home .

we did make it to the reed islands on the slowest boat afloat, the friggin thing idled out for about 45min to the reed islands, then idled all the way back, you've got our money already hammer the throttle down! the trip was interesting enuf but they could've shaved an hour off by spending 65 cents in diesel fuel.
Peru is a was, Bolivia is an is. Peru was amazing, every kind of scenery and landscape yu can imagine, from 16000ft mountains to valley bottom desert, and literally every shade in between. We travelled thru remote villages that at times had the children running for great distances to get close enuf to wave, to kids that run as fast and as far to get away from the approaching bikes. I saw teo little boys one day each playing with a bicycle tire only a few days later see two older boys playing with moto tires. Ok the food kinda sucked, but the beer was usually cold. There is little doubt in my mind the George Luca has been to peru because the landscape at times screams star wars and Jar Jar binks is certainly modeled after a peruvian goat with those crazy ears, and Yoda is a peruvian woman (no offence) as I saw him, er, her many times sitting on the side of the road and at the strangest places, sitting on the side of the road at 15000ft, just sitting there? Peru was fantastic and humbling at the same time, it would seem that were travelling thru places that havent changed in eons.
Tomorrow we're off the el camino del muerte or "the road of death" which hopefully turns out to be bullshit. The road has been closed now to traffic of the four wheeled variety, and is run in one way directions depending on day and is now used mostly by bicycle riding tourists, when in use as the main road, close to 300 people lost there lives every year as the drop off the side in places is vertical, and really really far down.
thats the end of this "communication" for now, will upload more pics when we get a decent connection.
