Wish I could have made it too the cabin but such is life. Made it into DOreen Sunday which was not at all what I expected but cool none the less. Fun trail down and up. Then checked out the prospectors trail which was shorter but even more fun. Found a cabin down there and a rock with visible gold in it. I love it!!

Who wants to ride some evening? And who wants to brave the Telwa with me to meet the Sparklr in Telkwa on the weekend then head back through it with him?

Looks like a Fraser Lake trip for the upcoming weekend might be called off as weather is turning for the worse. Although I would be willing to do the Telkwa Pass and Red Rose trip anyhow, with cloudy skies, the beauty of it all may not be as majestic as I'd like. Secondly more paved ass time isn't overly appealing either. So I've been contemplating doing a scouting run to Kildala Arm and Kemano, to go as far as possible, at least to two known questionable spots. Warning, this probably isn't for the feint of heart as I suspect the terrain will require some effort and stamina. Alternatively explore Kleanza Creek and the back country, Any takers or thoughts?

Any or all of the above are good with me. Not a huge fan of the paved for hours on end either on my bike, unless we are going somewhere epic of coarse. If the weather is good I'd love the Telkwa then red dog run, if it's more marginal Kemano would be crazy to try to get to although I know we won't but we could have fun trying. It's really nice behind Kleanza and I am always up for that and have much to explore off the main road back there. I almost did that Sunday but opted for Doreen instead.

Let's GO:f:

It sure soumds like things are hotting up in the north:clap: I am looking forward to some fun rides when I get back from my travels. Currently on the Oregon coast and contemplating starting the return journey tomorrow.

This has been one hell of an expensive holiday. We had the tranny on the suburban go as we reached 100 Mile House. This wasted 4 days of our trip andplenty of dollars to get us on the road again. A long and very expensive story. It looks like the torque convertor went first and trashed the tranny shortly after:mad2:

Anyway we have still had a great holiday even though I should have heeded Warren's advice and taken the KLX with me. The pacific NW looks like a great place to ride.

See you all soon and lets set a date for doing the Telkwa (after July 20th).

Sorry to hear about the tranny...and not taking the KLX:(

I'll do the Telkwa as many times as it takes, but the summer is the best time from what I saw. There was less water in spots which surprised me. It was much easier I found anyhow. Maybe it's the new bike but I don't think so. Get home safe and with everything in one piece.

So what's on next week?

I'm still planning on loading up the camping gear on Saturday & heading out for the most part of the week. Still haven't decided on a final route yet.

seems pretty quiet around here. Kermode is getting back soon though. I'd like to hit the Telkwa and Red dog this weekend if the rain stops. There is a great camping spot up there past the hard stuff if you want to stay there. Getting out from tehre would be easy alone if you can't find any otehr camping takers.

Looks like Saturday I'll head out via Aiyansh & Cranberry to Stewart/Hyder then back through Kispiox to Hazletons. Then wander around Burns/Ootsa Lake(s), maybe Granisle and work my way back from there. That should fill a few days. I'll try to see DrBike sometime on my mini-tour as I criss-cross Hwy 16.I don't think I'lltry Telkwa Pass with the fullcamping load.

First "leg stretch" will be Terrace (probably mid morning)

Give me a wave if you see the Big Red Pig on the road!

Have a safe week

Happy travels KitiKlr!

Sorry Northie, went for a ride this AM. I was tempted to come haul your butt out of bed, but since it was pouring and you like those Zzzz's I thought better of it. I'm still good for tomorrow, but it's going to have to be an early departure. Think you can handle it?

Started off with thoughts of scouting the Kemano passage, however it looked awfully wet in that direction so I headed out to the North Hirsch FSR to explore the area. Went in about 30K, with nothing terribly exciting to report but newly activated logging and riding alongside Bully Da Moose.

On the North Hirsch, if I was a White water kayaker, this could be fun

As the rains had subsided, thought I'd give the Kemano route a scout since I was already soaked anyhow. After a wrong turn or two, finally got on the right path.

Wasn't long until this

Another view.

Hmm, this is where your buddies come into play. Tempted to test out the Kenda's on this one, it was doable, but if flubbed might be a little harder to get out of it alone. So pee break, and more contemplation as to should I or not. Grizzly country, not a good place to get stuck alone, chickened out (wisely though). Heading back, I'm chasing a Grizz by accidental encounter, damn thing was going at least 40-50 Km/h trying to make an escape.

A little jaunt up Saunders/Weedene and home, cold and drenched. 188Km, of that 150Km FSR. Good lil' fix.

Right on. Nice ride, we can do the Kemano. As soon as that month long holly of Micaels finally comes to an end and he gets back to work, weird how that works, he'll be up for it too. The rain was too much for me today but tomorrow I am ready regarless. How early is early??:cf2:

So when and where. It's weird here. I was much more active in the winter:shoot: anyhow I've been riding and will. I'll be away for a couple weeks in the middle of August but otherwise I'm good. I want to do the Telkwa and dog in a day before that...maybe tomorrow?? It doesn't look tooooooo rainy.

Hope your doing well Kitimat, and staying dry. I have a feeling a hotel may be needed after today.

Today started off at Terrace A&W for a filling of the usual. It was then decided that we would indeed try the Telkwa Pass And Red Rose Mine. Cloudy but no rain as of yet. The ride in was a fast paced FSR jaunt. Can't remember for sure (too excited), but I believe during this rip a Moosie was encountered.

First stop. Beat up old sign that is supposed to indicate Telkwa Pass. Hard to see but it's there on the right.

Then the fun started and the challenges escalated from rocky climbs to rock gardens and creek passings, but lots of fun double track also. It's hard to describe it all without more pics, but really only a few engaging sections, and Northie is always happy to lead the way and show you how it's done.

Some similar pictures were posted by North already, but it is truly awe inspiring.

Shortly after this we encountered a squadron of ATV's and apparently a soloist biker that in all my excitement I failed to notice.

The site of Northie's epic swim. Even the Nekkid Finn had no qualms of stealing his thunder. Amazingly it was warm enough and had worked up enough sweat to justify it, but what's done is done.

After the challenges were more or less out of the way, some more fun doubletrack and the Tree campground.

I guess the biggest shortcoming on this trip was the lack of pics, it is truly epic and majestically awe inspiring, a must do for anyone in the area. Would I do it again. Absolutely!

Then followed some more fun double track to the rapid paced FSR to Telkwa. Food and bevies at the end of the line. No comment on that part, food and bevies that is. Wait a minute, the bevies were awesome!

We then painfully sauntered back towards home via the asphalt back to the Red Rose Mine trailhead. A quirky GPS nav anomaly later we found the trail. Sorry no pics, seems the more fun we have the less the camera comes out. Seems that retaining the information in the synapse form seems more than adequate. Generally though it was somewhat of a tricky dual track/ATV route with a mud bog and a few rock gardens, until we stumbled upon a few ATV'rs coming back and struggling over an obstacle so to speak. They all finally made it over, and stayed as long as Northie tested it out for us, I must admit I wasn't very comfortable with this manouver and chickened out. It didn't help much that a lady had lost her life here in the previous year. So technically I bailed, it was getting later than I had thought. I think it was doable, but I had bad vibes, so I chose to forfeit the adventure until more backup was available. Sorry North.

We had planned to possibly get into the Seven Sisters Peaks also but it was too late, so we opted for home. An epic day? You bet, I'm completely exhausted. Do the pass solo? Hmm, now that I've done it, maybe. But I certainly have to give give kudos to North for venturing as far as he did, solo! That's something to be proud of.

On the way home we ran into KitiKlr on and about his escapades. Back from Stewart and heading East with a Minnesota convert.

Epic ride day, but of course. 480 Kms for me (150-160 Kms offroad), a good riding buddy and good weather. Sweet!

Did I learn anything today? Yup, North likes puddles much more than Kiti likes potholes.
:Stir

The rest is self explanatory.:woohoo:

Anyone fancy a ride on Saturday. Telkwa and back on the pass sounds like fun :hb:

If not Telkwa, any other suggestions.

OK Saturday is good for me and I would love to take the pass both ways. Unless we want to hit the seven sisters on the way home, but I really hate the highway, especially after the epic pass. Who else? There should be less water this week since it's been pretty sunny.

I am up for a day doing the pass both ways without any highway. We can try the Seven Sisters another day.

Anyone else up for it?

As much as I loved the Telkwa Pass ride and definitely would do it again, I have to Pass for Saturday as I work Friday night and have accrued too many ride weekend demerit points with the Missus and child. I probably have to settle for a more local outside Terrace exploration, Northie kind of has an idea of the area. I say you guys go for it, you'll have a blast. My August looks busy with a few serious obligations to deal with, but I also have some time off and September has a few good open weekends. Somebody is going to Potato Island, so maybe when he's back we can set up for a Kemano attempt, apparently there is a river to fiord. Take another shot at Red Rose? On my list is Bella Coola, coinciding with a Lake stopover maybe, don't have dates yet. As four the Seven Sissies, I've learnt that it is off limits to motorized types thanks to the other culture that chose to scour the landscape.

Or perhaps a campover at Kitsault one Saturday?

HMMM potatoes:hb: wait.

Anyone else up for the pass? It should be much easier like the first time this year. Last week there was more water, this week it should be lower. I know your out there guys, maybe everyone's keyboards are broken!:(

Alright Kermode, what time you wanna go?

Hey have you guys all heard this must hear song, and the ladies will love it too. If so why didn't you let me know. Simply awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjbpwlqp5Qw&feature=player_embedded

Mandatory to CRANK IT UP!!

I can be ready to go whenever you want. Let me know what works for you.

Come on Chuck and Greg surely you must fancy hitting the Telkwa pass?

We can leave as late as noon and be back by six if we just go to the river and back before the logging road into Telkwa proper and have a beer back in Terrace. And everything goes smooth. How 'bout ten either at my place or the dub if you need some grub.

There must be someone else wanting to head out there, I swear to god it's easier and more pleasant in the summer. If not, it'll be my third time up there this month. Damn, I missed one weekend.

Let's GO!!!

10 at your place sounds good. I am really looking for to re-visiting the pass. Tomorrow is set to warm-up, which should make it perfect riding weather.

I can't speak for Chuck, and neither can he, as he is in Newfoundland.

I leave for Vancouver in early AM tomorrow. More tests, and hopefully some kind of prognosis.
