Today started off at Terrace A&W for a filling of the usual. It was then decided that we would indeed try the Telkwa Pass And Red Rose Mine. Cloudy but no rain as of yet. The ride in was a fast paced FSR jaunt. Can't remember for sure (too excited), but I believe during this rip a Moosie was encountered.
First stop. Beat up old sign that is supposed to indicate Telkwa Pass. Hard to see but it's there on the right.
Then the fun started and the challenges escalated from rocky climbs to rock gardens and creek passings, but lots of fun double track also. It's hard to describe it all without more pics, but really only a few engaging sections, and Northie is always happy to lead the way and show you how it's done.
Some similar pictures were posted by North already, but it is truly awe inspiring.
Shortly after this we encountered a squadron of ATV's and apparently a soloist biker that in all my excitement I failed to notice.
The site of Northie's epic swim. Even the Nekkid Finn had no qualms of stealing his thunder. Amazingly it was warm enough and had worked up enough sweat to justify it, but what's done is done.
After the challenges were more or less out of the way, some more fun doubletrack and the Tree campground.
I guess the biggest shortcoming on this trip was the lack of pics, it is truly epic and majestically awe inspiring, a must do for anyone in the area. Would I do it again. Absolutely!
Then followed some more fun double track to the rapid paced FSR to Telkwa. Food and bevies at the end of the line. No comment on that part, food and bevies that is. Wait a minute, the bevies were awesome!
We then painfully sauntered back towards home via the asphalt back to the Red Rose Mine trailhead. A quirky GPS nav anomaly later we found the trail. Sorry no pics, seems the more fun we have the less the camera comes out. Seems that retaining the information in the synapse form seems more than adequate. Generally though it was somewhat of a tricky dual track/ATV route with a mud bog and a few rock gardens, until we stumbled upon a few ATV'rs coming back and struggling over an obstacle so to speak. They all finally made it over, and stayed as long as Northie tested it out for us, I must admit I wasn't very comfortable with this manouver and chickened out. It didn't help much that a lady had lost her life here in the previous year. So technically I bailed, it was getting later than I had thought. I think it was doable, but I had bad vibes, so I chose to forfeit the adventure until more backup was available. Sorry North.
We had planned to possibly get into the Seven Sisters Peaks also but it was too late, so we opted for home. An epic day? You bet, I'm completely exhausted. Do the pass solo? Hmm, now that I've done it, maybe. But I certainly have to give give kudos to North for venturing as far as he did, solo! That's something to be proud of.
On the way home we ran into KitiKlr on and about his escapades. Back from Stewart and heading East with a Minnesota convert.
Epic ride day, but of course. 480 Kms for me (150-160 Kms offroad), a good riding buddy and good weather. Sweet!
Did I learn anything today? Yup, North likes puddles much more than Kiti likes potholes.
:Stir
The rest is self explanatory.:woohoo:
