Okay I'm in. Total noob experience. 20 years on the road but that's not why I bought the KLR. I'll be riding in from North Van anyone want to hook up here to ride in?

Have I got the right rubbers for this party?(I don't want to dress too formal if everyone else is dressed casual)

-I've got the Pirrelli Scorpion MT90'son right now, You think they'll be fine or should I try to switch over to knobbies tomorrow? I have the tires, I just haven't got much time to get them switched over. Also I haven't got rim locks so I doubt I'll be able to deflate them much. Oh and for perspective, as long as I can still ride away I don't have any issue with dropping the bike.

Any other noob advice for me?

Lucky,
the road to Levett and Hut lakes is opposite the north van outdoor school in Paradise Valley, past Squamish - reasonably bumpy FSR.

some long rides, such as Dawson City, YT, via secondary highways with extensive gravel sections, the White Pass into Skagway, AK is packed gravel..

snow in august over the coquihalla...

also some FSR's on the sunshine coast - my family has a place in halfmoon bay.

and no, the GS500 does NOT make a good mudder! heavy, short suspension, poor riding position for DS type rides.. not to mention the vulnerable oil pan and levers.

gravel roads on a K75..

sunday, however, will be my first DS ride with the KLR... I am looking forward to it!

cheers,
S.

I'll be riding out from Poco as well (KLR650). Are you going out on the north side from there or over the ferry ?

Your tires will be fine. These are basically just forest service roads, some climbs, maybe a cross ditch or 2 but really, nothing I couldn't have done with my original pirelli scorpians.

I'm coming in from North Burnaby & am meeting up with the crew at 232 around 8am.

Look for the flash of bright orange on the highway & you can join up with me for the ride out..:D

The oil was changed, the spark plug changed, a few minor boo boos fixed, and the bike is ready. The weather is looking good, too. I'm in and bringing my KLR to the party. A couple of friends will be coming as well.

greetings all

i am planning on creating a montage of pics/video footage from the day for

a youtube clip. Anyone who would like to share some video/pics at the end

of the ride can find me at the white dodge dually with the sue and al fishies

on the dash. I will copy your sdhc card onto my computer in

less than a minute. With your help, i'm hoping to include as many

participants as possible. I have worked with casio, nikon, and cannon

cameras. Also oregon scientific helmet cam, which all record .avi video files.

This format has worked well for me so far. Sony and some others may not

work. They use different formats and cards.

Al

Do you need to have an insured bike to take part in this ride? My bike is a street legal XR650L but I don't want to put insurance on it yet.

I've tallied up all the replies and counted all of my PMs and it appears that we have 106 riders planning on showing up tomorrow :dr::dr::dr::dr:

The CMA advises that coffee will available at 8am for those folks that plan to show up early :cf2:. Breakfast will be ready at 9:00am.:br:

I hope to have the Riders Meeting at 10:00am. Tom will have some important things to mention about the trails that we will be riding on.

The Pacific BMW sponsored BBQ will be at the end of the ride.

Pacific BMW and Western Powersports (Yamaha) will have demo bikes available to test ride at the BBQ.

See you all tomorrow.
